Background: The Plateau state universal basic education board (PSUBEB) had on the 26th of august 2014, contracted aspire systems an indigenous and reputable software company to install an information management system for the 17 LGEAs and SUBEB headquarters. This was done but was yet to be engaged by the clients as the training aspect was still lingering.
With the constitution of a new management board it was deemed necessary to train EMIS personnel on the software alongside the new format of the annual school census report sheets introduced by the Federal Ministry of Education. Based on the foregoing, Aspire systems is pleased to forward a report on the training of EMIS personnel of SUBEB.
A total of eighty (80) staff were expected for training these staff included officers from the board and the 17 local government areas at LEA Shehe.
The training kicked off with an opening ceremony where the effort of management was well appreciated from all participant who promised to put in their best in learning about the software. A brief overview was giving on the software as to how it when put into use would not only ease the work load but would solve the problem of education without information ensuring that informed decisions can be taken at any point in time using real time information further explaining that SMARTDESK has been designed to make end users give reports that are timely, efficient and effective.
Day One (1), Trainees were put through a refresher course on the internet and its applications, emails and web browsers. By the end of the day, one each participant could easily setup email account and send mails reports and other documents to each other.
Day Two (2), Saw the participant familiarizing themselves with the annual school census forms and addendum that were newly introduced, where some observations were made and brought to the attention of the consultants, which was taking into account and added for cohensiveness.
Day three (3) and four (4), involve intensive use of the software by the participant where several modifications were made on the software making it more convenient for use by the client. The closing ceremony was then held after the final session wrapped up and the desktop system which were bought by the board were officially handed over to the LGEAs
Conclusion
The software was developed and deployed. The training session was very successful. In that a conscious effort was made by each participant to use the software which signified a milestone in data recording, compilation and transmission between the local government education authorities and the board headquarters.
Recommendation; The ideal situation where SMARTDESK would be optimized is where every school uses the software directly form its station, this will cut cost of running the annual schools census the traditional way and enable every school with the help of a supervisor collate every detail with just the click of the botton at SUBEB. The SMARTDESK Platform does not just consist of an Annual School Census data capture unit but comprise of othe aspect of managing the Universal Basic Education Project in Africa.
